Inventory Categories

Overview

Before creating inventory items, organise them into categories (for example: Dairy, Meat, Vegetables). Categories improve reporting and help filter items when creating recipes or purchase orders.

Guide: Managing Categories

  1. Add Category:
    • Click (+) ADD CATEGORY.
    • Enter Category Name (e.g., Vegetables) and Description.
    • Click ADD.
  2. Edit Category:
    • Use the Pencil Icon next to the category.
    • Update name or description and click UPDATE.
  3. Delete Category:
    • Click the Trash Icon next to the category.
    • Confirmation: A popup appears; you can only delete an empty category.

Best Practices

  • Keep category names short and consistent (e.g., use "Dairy" not "Dairy Products").
  • Avoid creating very small categories that fragment reporting.
